Sculptures From Nature

This Gallery includes several sculptures that capture the sense of fantasy or dreams. I enjoyed creating them because of their vibrant colors, textures, and forms. I made the whimsical sculptures out of items collected in our yard and in the woods over the past 12 months.

The main features of the first sculpture are the two globular mushrooms I dried over a long period of time. I painted them according to their contours and feel. They looked like brains to me, which explains the simluated brain stems and blood vessels to simluate the flow of life-giving blood.

Split Personality

The sculpture is in an 8" round wood base with a 12" high glass dome (not shown).

The main features of the second sculpture are the patterns and carved-out tunnels that beetles and other insects have left behind on dead and decaying treek trunks. I also added mushrooms/fungi that I dried and painted. The small "torsos" are part of my collection of branches selected because of their dynamic poses.

Paradise Is Where You Find It
